Tally, a technologic partner for Decathlon’s associates in San Francisco
Tally, the unobtrusive self-driving machine, developed by the San Francisco based Simbe Robotics, can be seen running at the first U.S. location of the Decathlon in downtown San Francisco.
It is the first fully autonomous inventory robot, meaning it roves aisles and tracks RFID chips on nearly 10,000 products. Tally uses LiDAR, RealSense 3D sensor tech from Intel, cameras, and computer vision to check inventory and pricing. It can also flag any items in the wrong place. It “sees” obstacles blocking its way and is programmed to move away from crowds of people.
Tally is in other grocery stores and retail shops and has logged 10,000 miles of inventory checks and constant scanning. Instead of being relegated to a store room or a massive warehouse, Tally is out in the open, working alongside real, human workers. It doesn’t seem that distracting and the workers seem to appreciate that it’s doing work that they’d have to do (like manually counting items and marking what’s low and needs replenishing).

US biggest crowdfunding platform looking to tap into Chinese hardware innovation
Indiegogo, the San Francisco-based crowdfunding startup, debuted a pilot program in China in 2015. In June, the company decided to expand its efforts in Asia and launched a Global Fast-Track Program aiming to support Chinese entrepreneurs to expand to international markets.
Despite China has been the mega factory of the world, Chinese innovative hardware companies are having trouble into positioning their products in Europe & USA. Why? The Chinese market is drastically different. They often need to adjust design, functions and retail strategy, lack of knowledge about Europe consumers uses local ways and worse don’t know how to interact with local retailers.
Indiegogo essentially wants to build a one-stop shop—from the crowdfunding stage to pre-order for innovators in China.
ZTP thanks to its close partnerships with HAX, the most dynamic hardware cross border accelerator based in Shenzhen, will for sure take advantage of that trend to position our retail ecosystem.

Amazon is now number 1 in India, ahead of Flipkart.
Amazon has focused a lot on affordability for the last 18 months (India is a very price sensitive market) and also on a great delivery experience backed up with strong logistic network. On this front, Amazon wants to be able to deliver on smaller cities becaus the key growth is there nowadays.
Also 50 % of inventory of the platform has been added in 12 months partly because of the great increase of number of sellers. (Amazon is betting more on the long tail than on a few big sellers).
From a financial aspect, Amazon sales have reached 7,5 USD billion growth sales while Flipkart sales are up to 6,2 billion USD.
Difficult to prove, but we believe Amazon is more profitable than Flipkart

New business models have seen emerging new ways of working.
We often talk about “uberisation” but many professions are impacted and it is not always undergone : more and more people choose to work freelance and / or distance.
In some professions, this type of work is often less chosen and may induce a form of precariousness (see Arte’s documentary on the subject below) but as this trend is growing, we can see some competition between platforms that will eventually benefit to the final worker.
To be followed !
